William Forsythe’s Choreographic Objects

Abstract:

In Forsythe, the proposition is felt as an invitation to experiment within the bounds of an ecology of practices that makes time felt. The choreographic object does this by bringing together the pastness of experience the objects evoke within the new constellation of event time. It elicits action in an environment of change in which choreography is a multiplying ecology governed by the specificity of a co-constituting environment. Direction by exception, choreography develops in the incipiency of the in-between, spurred by tendencies that waver between the rekindling of habit and the tweaking of a contrast which beckons the new. Choreographic practice invents from what does not seem feasible, creating through the vectors of experimentation.

Dans Forsythe, la proposition est sentie comme une invitation à expérimenter à l’intérieur des pourtours d’une écologie des pratiques qui fait ressentir le temps. L’objet chorégraphique fait ceci en ramenant ensemble la malléabilité que l’expérience des objets évoque à l’intérieur d’une nouvelle constellation du temps-événement. Il suscite l’action dans un environnement changeant dans lequel la chorégraphie est une écologie multiplicatrice gouvernée par la spécificité d’un environnement co-constitué. Direction par exception, la chorégraphie se développe dans la formation de l’entre-deux, elle s’aiguillonne par les tendances qui hésitent entre l’habitude ranimée et le contraste tiraillé qui invite le nouveau. La pratique chorégraphique invente à partir de ce qui semble impossible en pratique, créant par les vecteurs de l’expérimentation.
