Australia - Sydney
The Sydney molecule that Anna Munster, Lone Bertelsen and Andrew Murphie are involved in (not sure if there are others but I don’t think so) is likely to be low level and is still forming, and probably won’t do so til March, if that is going to work globally.
We do know we will almost certainly be something as follows. It will probably be small. And just to clarify, it’s somewhat inspired by all kinds of “instruction art” but it’s not really (or not exclusively) about art per se. It’s much broader than that … and we are most definitely in discussion with the more organized Melbourne group.
instructions for a society of molecules
—instruction writing workshop
—inspired by “instruction” art … Ono, Beuys, etc but also by design process and audit cultures (that is, by the need to “détourne” the latter) and by the fact that we are now immersed in an ocean of instructions ….
—instructions, rules, anti-rules (eg Spehr .. the first rule of free cooperation is that you can opt out whenever you want) ... proposals, algorithms, code snippets, cross-signals, propositions (Whitehead—> composition), prehensions, concrescence, detournements, etc, design processes, models, metamodels, etc … composition (eg Cage, Riley) etc
—instruction “manual” + site for building a S o M
—I’m interested in addressing molecular activity – eg how do we actually micro-adjust to global warming (when we all can only currently make minimal adjustments because of the macro) ..
—coming out of Guattari, Whitehead, etc
Personally, I’m very interested in the micro aspects of this – the turning around of the small instructions that we follow each day – counter disruptions. And I was also thinking of a question like – “what would a micro version of Beuys’ A Thousand Oaks be (the seed version), and in terms of all kinds of microevents, instructions” ...
